A Meeting of Minds

Story

A Meeting of Minds

It was a crisp autumn morning when Sarah sat down with her colleague, Jack, in the corner of the bustling coffee shop. They hadn’t seen each other in years, not since the company had downsized and Sarah had moved to a different city. The moment she walked in, she spotted Jack immediately, sitting at a table by the window, his usual friendly grin on his face. 'It’s been a while!' she said, sliding into the chair across from him. 'Yeah, it really has,' Jack replied, a nostalgic tone in his voice. 'Since the merger, things have been crazy, but I’ve been good. How about you?' Sarah smiled, feeling the years of separation melt away. She had kept busy since moving, but now, sitting with Jack, it felt as though no time had passed. 'Oh, you know,' she said, 'I’ve been working in marketing since we last talked. And I've been traveling a lot for work, so that's kept me on my toes.' 'What about you?' Jack asked, curious. 'I see you've stayed in town. Is that because of the project we started?' Sarah nodded. 'Actually, yes. Since that big project fell through, I’ve been focusing on smaller clients, but I’m hoping to get back into something bigger soon.' The two continued catching up, reminiscing about old projects and talking about their current ambitions. 'I’ve always wanted to travel more,' Jack said with a sigh. 'Maybe I’ll take a sabbatical soon. Since you're so into traveling, maybe you could recommend some places.' Sarah laughed. 'Definitely! There are so many great spots I’ve been to recently. But hey, since you’re thinking about it, I think it’s time we plan something together.' The meeting carried on with the two of them making plans for the future, both realizing how much time had passed since their last conversation but how, in a way, it felt like they had never left each other’s lives.
