Meantime Meaning

On a crisp autumn afternoon, Clara sat at the old wooden desk in her favorite coffee shop, laptop open in front of her. The deadline for her proposal was looming, but a sudden power outage had thrown her off course. As she stared at the blank screen, she sighed and glanced at the clock on the wall. The hands seemed to move slower than usual. 'Well,' she muttered, 'I guess I’ll have to make use of the meantime.' Her colleague, Jake, was sitting across from her, fingers drumming nervously on his mug. 'What are you going to do?' he asked. Clara smiled and shrugged, her mind already making plans. 'I’ll work on the presentation in the meantime. The lights will be back in an hour, right?' Jake nodded. 'In the meantime, I’ll take a walk to clear my head.' He grabbed his coat and headed out the door, leaving Clara alone with her thoughts. In the midst of this unexpected wait, she realized the importance of managing time creatively. She pulled out her phone and checked her emails, deciding to handle some smaller tasks while the main job remained paused. It was only a short while before the lights flickered back on. As Jake returned, Clara was typing furiously, her proposal nearly done. 'You managed to get a lot done in the meantime!' he said with a grin. Clara nodded.
